Air your garments instead of washing them, to save water and energy and extend their life. Be sure to wash your outerwear if it has been used in salt water, or if it is very dirty or soaked with perspiration, as this weakens its performance. This can reduce the breathability of the fabric and damage the water-repellent surface. Dirt can even allow moisture to seep through the fabric.
Use a wash bag to protect your garments and prevent fibers from escaping. When cleaning the bag and machine filter, be sure to wipe them dry and dispose of any lint in the trash. Never rinse with water, as we don't want the fibers to end up in lakes or oceans.
Machine wash cold.
There are special detergents for jackets, but mild, eco-certified detergents work just as well. Just make sure you use the right amount.
Avoid fabric softeners. As well as being harmful to the environment, they have a negative impact on garment performance, particularly in terms of moisture transport and breathability.
Air dry. Don't forget to apply heat to the garment after washing to reactivate the waterproof surface of the outer fabric. Use a tumble dryer, tumble dryer or iron. Be sure to control the heat so that the garment does not melt.
You can reapply or reinforce the water-repellent treatment with a detergent or spray if necessary. Always use an organic DWR product: you'll find sprays and washing products in our online store or in our stores.
