Discover our brands ECO X CEPTION, brands that are moving in the right direction. We had the chance to chat with Blandine Legait, one of the founders of Baserange.
Blandine : Marie-Louise (my Danish partner) and I met in Paris through a mutual friend, and when I moved to Toulouse, we decided to launch Baserange together.
We're both very complementary, Marie-Louise takes care of creation, design and image from Copenhagen. I take care of marketing, sales, production, management and logistics, as the warehouse is based here in Toulouse.
Blandine : The initial idea was to develop very comfortable second-skin undergarments that respect natural forms and ecology, while at the same time offering minimalist garments with straight cuts and natural materials. Baserange means "basic assortment" in English.
Blandine : We develop our collections in close collaboration with our factories in Portugal, France and Turkey, taking into account their constraints and trying to constantly improve our processes to respect the environment.
Our main materials are bamboo lyocell, organic cotton and since this season, regenerative cotton, recycled cotton, hemp, linen or wool, and recycled wool, all recognized as being the most environmentally friendly available.
We have also developed lines in vegetable dyes, and each season we have a large part of our collections in un-dyed fabric, as dyeing is one of the most impacting stages both in terms of energy, water and chemicals.
Our packaging is made from recycled paper, and we favor road transport for our production deliveries, and as much as possible for our European customers.
Blandine : Quality is key, the impact of a garment on the planet is directly related to the number of times it will be worn before being thrown away.
So we do everything we can to produce pieces that will last and that people won't get tired of.
More than half our models are permanent, which means they won't "expire" after one selling season, so on these models we have no unsold, overstocked, no sales pushing consumption. And generally speaking, as our designs are rather minimalist, they're quite timeless, so you never get tired of them. Finally, we decided after a few years to go back from 4 to 2 seasonal collections per year only, to intentionally limit the number of new items, and focus on quality, processes, and communication.
Blandine : We want to move forward on this path:
- Continuously improve the quality of our garments, and our processes to make them less impactful.
- Have reasoned growth, that respects the teams and producers we work with.
- Accompany and support local projects that enable us to recreate fashion made entirely in nearby regions.
- Develop upcycling, which we are developing experimentally in the Copenhagen boutique.

How Baserange participates in "slow fashion"?
