Craftsmanship and exceptional partnership
Design is part of the Marquina family's DNA.
Rafael Marquina, Nani's father and a pioneer of Spanish industrial design, inspired his daughter to follow in his footsteps. In the 1970s, Nani chose to explore a more artistic and artisanal approach to design, giving birth to nanimarquina. With the return of democracy to Spain, a veritable "design bonanza" transformed the country, and in this vibrant context, nanimarquina revolutionized the market by reinventing the traditional rug as a contemporary design object. In a field still dominated by men, Nani launched her own company and, in 1994, relocated production to India, where she discovered the richness of the craftsmanship and the cultural value of the rug. Today, the brand continues to produce in India, Pakistan, and Nepal, respecting both tradition and the environment. Since 2002, nanimarquina has collaborated with Care & Fair, an organization that combats child labor and supports local communities, notably by funding schools and health centers in India. The company remains deeply family-run: in 2002, Maria Piera Marquina, Nani's daughter, joined the team to drive its international expansion and is now the CEO, while Carlota Marquina, Nani's sister, heads up artistic creation and visual communication. True to its values, nanimarquina designs sustainable rugs that promote recycling and oppose the throwaway culture, as evidenced by the Bicicleta collection, launched in 2005, which gives a second life to bicycle inner tubes.
