The French brand Corail was founded in 2018 by two long-time friends, Paul Guedj and Alexis Troccaz, sneaker fans but also revolted by the amount of plastic waste seen on the beaches of southern France. In 2019, they launch the operation "Nique pas ta mer", joining forces with fishermen. To collect as many bottles as possible, the brand has put together a team of fishermen from Marseille, who know the Mediterranean coasts better than anyone else and have already collected more than two tons of waste off Marseille. Once collected, the waste is washed, sorted, crushed and finally transformed into yarn to offer you a 100% recycled fabric. In addition, this plastic harvesting allows to bring an additional income to the fishermen of Marseille, hard hit by the climate change. In addition to their operation "Nique pas ta mer", the idea of the brand is to propose a brand of sneakers that are really transparent and really ecological. These pairs of sneakers are not made with any animal material and the brand is PETA approved. In short, the Corail brand uses plastic bottles collected in Marseilles, for each pair 8 bottles are used, resulting in a 100% vegan and cruelty-free pair. The fabric that results from these bottles is breathable, made in France, as are the laces.
