A wardrobe classic with an endless sense of versatility, Alice Balas is the brand making the biker jacket great again. Based in Paris but with an international eye, each piece is crafted to be different – offering iconic designs that defy trends and traditions. Since opening her namesake boutique in the Marais in June 2016, Alice Balas has shot to infamy for her rock chic silhouettes in a diverse range of leathers – bringing a sense of easy rider style to a core classic. Fresh off the back off the successful collaboration with USA motorcycle & leather manufacture Schott, we caught up with the designer to learn more about the rhythm of life in the fast lane.

Alice Balas : At 9 am to the sound of France Inter. I love the snooze button, even though I know the future’s made by morning people – but I’m getting better every day.
The dulcet tones of Augustin Trapenard or the melodies of my friends Polo & Pan.

A pair of glasses, a notebook which acts like my second brain and a miniature of my favourite perfume, Bois D’Argent.
The dish of the day from Carreau, the restaurant across the road from my boutique. It’s delicious and there’s always something different on the menu – they even bring my lunch over to me when I don’t have time to sit down.

Later than I should, but I’m really invested in this adventure. In summer, I leave around 8 pm so I can enjoy a bit of sun and some drinks with friends. In winter, I’m usually there until 10 pm. The lights in the shop stay on till late and I always see people in the street peeking through the windows to see if I’m still there – I am, I’m just hiding behind the curtains.
Dining with friends, whatever the time of day or part of the city: Le Lautrec, Le Petit Amour, Le Consulat, Le Pavillon Puebla, Le Café de la Poste.
I’m a pretty active person by nature, I don’t really leave a lot of time to relax. I’d consider myself a night owl most of the time. But, getting lost in a book while Paris sleeps is one of my favourite things to do.
I don’t tend to wear makeup as I take my motorbike to work most days, instead, I look after my skin with detoxifying & hydrating products – it’s my personal ritual.
