We regularly hear that cashmere, this noble wool often at a high price, is a difficult to maintain and "very fragile" material. This is a common misconception, in reality it is a noble wool but very easy to maintain and clean. We will reveal our care tips as well as the secrets to properly wash your cashmere sweaters.

How to properly wash your cashmere sweater?

1. Wash your cashmere sweaters regularly

Cashmere is a material that loves water, the latter makes cashmere even more beautiful by allowing your sweaters to keep the softness and suppleness of the fiber while avoiding pilling.

2. Wash your cashmere sweaters in cold water

Cashmere loves water, on the other hand, it is not a fan of hot water. Using hot water would risk altering your sweater. Thus, it is imperative to wash your sweaters cold, never exceeding a temperature of 20 ° C. A good tip to know because it is also more ecological and economical!

3. Wash your cashmere sweaters in the machine (or by hand)

Despite what you may hear, cashmere care is ideally done with a machine wash. The steady motion of your washing machine respects the fibers and weave structure, which is not often the case with hand washing.

If you machine wash your sweater, start your wool program and choose a spin of 400 or 500 rpm maximum. You can adopt a wash cover or net or pillowcase (without buttons or zippers) to slip your sweater inside so it doesn't get distorted in the wash. Then, a small dose of detergent is enough, it is also possible to use a special detergent cashmere.

A hand wash, is carried out in cold or warm water diluted beforehand by detergent or a special wool product. Then, make a gentle movement and knead your sweater, do not let it soak too long, then rinse your sweater with clean water. For the spinning, lay your sweater without deforming it in a towel that will act as a sponge.

4. It is important not to use fabric softener

When we talk about cashmere, we obviously think about its softness. During all the stages of caring for your sweater, remember to always be gentle in your actions. There is only one exception: the softener! It is essential not to use fabric softener, whether machine or hand wash, cashmere is already soft enough and the fabric softener product would risk altering its softness and quality, going against the expected effect.

How to properly dry your cashmere sweater

5. Opt for flat drying for your cashmere sweaters

A good drying will save you from ironing it and save you time! It is best to dry your cashmere sweater flat to prevent your sweater from warping over time. You have two options, either use a towel and lay your sweater flat, or invest in a flat dryer to dry it. It is best to avoid the sun's rays when drying your garment.

6. Iron your cashmere sweaters with a very soft iron

If you feel the need, lightly and gently iron your cashmere sweater inside out with a soft iron and a steam jet, it is important not to pull the knit. You can also use a cloth or a tea towel between the garment and the iron if you want to take every precaution. Avoid pressing on the edges of the collar and sleeves as this will compromise the elasticity of the fiber. There is also a steamer commonly known as a steam steamer that will do the job just as well.

How to care for your cashmere sweater in the long run

7. Let your cashmere sweaters rest

If you want to keep your cashmere as soft as possible, you need to let the fibers rest so that they can replenish themselves. That's why we recommend not wearing your cashmere sweater for more than three consecutive days and alternating with your other clothes.

8. Use a cashmere comb to remove pilling

It's common for your cashmere sweater to pellet or fluff, it's completely normal! They will disappear with washings as you go along. If you have time, remove them one by one by hand or use a cashmere comb. This is the best method, because using a razor or a cashmere comb means less pulling on the fibers of the fabric. Thus, apply it in the direction of the fiber gently, without pressing and occasionally.

9. Avoid rubbing

Cashmere when it comes in contact with other items, such as zippers, inner pockets containing keys or other hard objects, then there is a risk of damaging your cashmere sweater. This is because the friction of these accessories can generate lint or other damage.

10.Opt for a cedar ball

Our care tips also apply when storing your sweater. Ideally, keep your cashmere sweater lying flat, avoiding hanging your garment on a hanger so that it doesn't warp. It is also preferable to store it in a cover, away from the sun and light in a dry and ventilated place. Another maintenance tip would be to use a cedar ball to hang on a hanger or place on a shelf in your dressing room. This cedar wood accessory is recommended because it allows you to repel harmful insects such as possible moths. This ball is soaked in cedar oil with a very pleasant woody smell, lasting about a year. In order to renew its effectiveness, you can also soak your cedar ball in its oil, be careful not to put it in direct contact with clothes to avoid staining them.
